Feb 5-22, 2009:

During February 2009 we will be having programs from February 5-22, including our regular daily meditations at 11:30 am and 6:00 pm. The spirit of the gatherings is that of old friends who are very sincere about the practices getting together to learn and laugh, to meditate and contemplate, and to spend some time away from home to reconnect with the deeper, quieter aspects of yourself.

Many of our gatherings here have historically been spontaneous (often after evening meditation), and this has been quite enjoyable, flexible, insightful and fun. Some of our times will have themes, which we'll choose on the basis of program participants. If you have a specific topic request, please let me know. We'll surely have a wide range of discussions, training and practices, both in groups and individually.

Whoever is here will come together in a sense of community, with our schedules being flexible, while punctual. Out of state or country visitors can stay at hotels or condos at the beach, while local people are also welcome to participate in all activities.

PROGRAM: Here's a general outline of our activities for the month, including 6 hours per day together:

  • DAILY: Meditation at 11:30 am; satsang 11:30-2:00pm
  • DAILY: Meditation at 6:00 pm; satsang 5:30-9:00 pm
  • Other times: Depending on participants and Swami J.
  • Exceptions: None known yet, though I may have some specific task I need to do for a few hours.

Satsang means coming together in truth.
sat=truth; sanga=company

DISCUSSIONS: Please read some of the following while you are here. Bring quotes and questions with you to the satsangs. These will be the basis of our discussions, though we will likely go in many lively and insightful directions from these.

  • Articles from the SwamiJ.com website
  • The Path by Swami J (from lulu; download)
  • Other lulu booklets by Swami J (lulu)
  • Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (any rendition)
  • Upanishads
  • Art of Joyful Living (ISBN 0893891177)* by Swami Rama
  • Conscious Living (ISBN 8188157031) by Swami Rama
  • Path of Fire and Light, V.2 (ISBN 0893891126)* by Swami Rama
  • Meditation and Its Practice (ISBN 0893891304)* by Swami Rama
  • Other books by Swami Rama (for those published by the Himalayan Institute of USA, please try to get versions published before Swami Rama left the body in 1996, prior to the posthumous revising of some books)

* The Swami Rama books with the ISBN noted above are preferred, as some of the later published versions of these books have been significantly altered after Swami Rama left the body.

PRIVATE: Here are some other suggestions for you to do in your private time:

  • Four meditation times, whether alone or in group:
early morning, late morning, 6:00 pm, later evening
  • Daily stretches or hatha yoga; exercise, walks on the beach
  • Food: Most days we'll plan to have one meal together, whether midday or evening.
  • Readings: Please do some amount of readings each day, particularly including the books of Swami Rama. Bring your observations and questions with you for satsang. These readings will be the foundation of our discussions.

Hotels and condos: There is a separate page on the website that lists hotels and links (click here). There are two general locations: in town, and beaches. As it is off-season, the beach hotels are quite reasonable. If possible, the Ramada is recommended. This will put people together for convenience. They also have a heated pool and lots of garden space to gather. For condos, the El Matador is recommended, as it has many rooms available at reasonable rates. Again, it would be nice for people to be at the same place. February is off season, and the hotel occupancy rates are quite low. There is virtually no possibility of there being a shortage of rooms.

Let me know your intent: Please let me know of your wishes or intent about coming for this. I'm not trying to hold you to this as a commitment, but it will help in planning. Give me some idea what you think will be your approximate arrival date and departure date. If you live in the Fort Walton Beach area, please let me know how much time you think you'll be involved, as well as if you'd like to be available to help with organizing. (contact)

Costs: You'll be booking your own accommodations, so those costs depend on you and your choices, such as whether to share a hotel room or condo, and whether to have kitchen facilities. Some of the 2-bedroom condos are available for a month at quite reasonable rates. There are no fees for the programs, though your donations are appreciated. If you want to share a car rental, we can connect people. If you won't be having a car, we can possibly help with transportation. The Ramada hotel is about a 2-mile walk. The El Matador condo is about 3 miles. We usually make food here every evening that people are here and sometimes people bring something from the grocery store across the street.

-------

This site is devoted to presenting the ancient Self-Realization path of the Tradition of the Himalayan masters in simple, understandable and beneficial ways, while not compromising quality or depth. The goal of our sadhana or practices is the highest Joy that comes from the Realization in direct experience of the center of consciousness, the Self, the Atman or Purusha, which is one and the same with the Absolute Reality. This Self-Realization comes through Yoga meditation of the Yoga Sutras, the contemplative insight of Advaita Vedanta, and the intense devotion of Samaya Sri Vidya Tantra, the three of which complement one another like fingers on a hand. We employ the classical approaches of Raja, Jnana, Karma, and Bhakti Yoga, as well as Hatha, Kriya, Kundalini, Laya, Mantra, Nada, Siddha, and Tantra Yoga. Meditation, contemplation, mantra and prayer finally converge into a unified force directed towards the final stage, piercing the pearl of wisdom called bindu, leading to the Absolute.
