Himalayan Institute

See also: Himalayan Tradition

"Himalayan Institute" is the name Swami Rama most often used for many of the Yoga teaching organizations he founded. Often there would be independent Himalayan Institute centers in different countries. Some countries have had more than one Himalayan Institute, each of which may be independent from the other Himalayan Institute centers, or they may be affiliated. The complete name would often be Himalayan International Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy, with the formal institution legally organized as a corporation in the specific country, state or province, etc. in which that center was located.

The original Himalayan Institute was founded in India and operated in Kanpur and Delhi. The most well know among the various Himalayan Institute locations in the world is the center in Pennsylvania, USA. Presently there are two Himalayan Institute groups in India, and they have completely independent management from one another, and no affiliation.

Other variations of the Himalayan Institute name have also emerged. There are centers called Himalayan Yoga Meditation Center, Himalayan Yoga Meditation Society, and the Institute of the Himalayan Tradition. Mostly, these are also independent teaching centers rather than being affiliated with any one of the Himalayan Institute centers, though a few may be.

Since Swami Rama left the body in 1996 the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust which he founded near Dehra Dun and Rishikesh, India has gained an ever greater presence in the world, and is possibly better known than any other of the Yoga teaching centers.

Each of these many centers faithfully serves students in their own way. While they may not be affiliated, they are all striving to serve humanity with the Yoga teachings of the Himalayan masters and Swami Rama.

-------

This site is devoted to presenting the ancient Self-Realization path of the Tradition of the Himalayan masters in simple, understandable and beneficial ways, while not compromising quality or depth. The goal of our sadhana or practices is the highest Joy that comes from the Realization in direct experience of the center of consciousness, the Self, the Atman or Purusha, which is one and the same with the Absolute Reality. This Self-Realization comes through Yoga meditation of the Yoga Sutras, the contemplative insight of Advaita Vedanta, and the intense devotion of Samaya Sri Vidya Tantra, the three of which complement one another like fingers on a hand. We employ the classical approaches of Raja, Jnana, Karma, and Bhakti Yoga, as well as Hatha, Kriya, Kundalini, Laya, Mantra, Nada, Siddha, and Tantra Yoga. Meditation, contemplation, mantra and prayer finally converge into a unified force directed towards the final stage, piercing the pearl of wisdom called bindu, leading to the Absolute.
